Who had the biggest influence on your career & why?
David Ogilvy – he exemplifies many of my values, including lifelong learning and exploration, running a values-based business, maintaining high standards and expectations and enabling others to be creative and productive.
What drove your decision to get into the marketing business?
Marketing presented the most interesting challenges while encouraging creativity and up-to-the-minute knowledge.
What are you most proud of – your finest hour?
I am most proud of helping a discouraged and unproductive staff member find her feet as a leader.
What attracted you to DMN3?
The integrity of the people and their willingness to work hard.
In your opinion, what makes a great brand?
Integrity – standing for a set of values, delivering consistently and communicating openly.
Name at least one talent that you wish you could master.
I would like to be more persuasive.
If you were marooned on a desert island, what would you miss most?
The constant flow of new information.
What food helps you think creatively?
Peanuts…they're easy to eat while reading or writing.
What is your favorite sports team & why?
Whatever team my son is playing on.
Describe your childhood & include where you grew up.
My family moved all around south and east Texas until I entered middle school – my father was a newspaper reporter, eventually becoming editor and publisher of the Fort Bend Mirror. I loved going to school and reading. My younger brothers and I were not close, but we've all become very independent thinkers – my parents taught us respect for others and appreciation for work.
